Devils Postpile

california rocks!  (literally)  devils postpile national monument, located in the sierra nevada's, was formed over 700,000 years ago from volcanic activity resulting in these towering columns of basalt.  the mostly hexagonal columns, provided for a photographic exploration of shape and repetition in nature.  i ended up spending over half a day shooting there, subsequently missing rainbow falls, further down the trail.
